Contributing to a multi-disciplinary understanding of strategic behaviour, this paper analyzes foreign direct investment strategies of US firms in Europe since the second world war. Taking routinized investment behaviour, satisficing strategies and learning economies as major building blocks of an emerging theoretical framework the analysis follows the ’lagged co-evolution’ of company investment strategies and changing international economic environments.
